Purpose: To understand and appreciate the depth of the challenges facing sub-Saharan Africa in its quest to improve its future.

Objective:
  • All students participating in this project should be able to demonstrate clearly what the challenges are facing various regions of Africa South of the Sahara in 'claiming the 21st century.'
  • Demonstrate convincingly that they collaborated with all members of the classroom community and the school community to complete (begin?) this project.
  • To inform each person in the class, in the school and in the broader global community about those issues impacting on African development.
  • To provide a portal by which the world outside of Africa can make a positive contribution to its goals.

Teams:
  • You will need:
    • A group that will create a website, document the activities of the class as it works through this. This group will maintain a running blog/website/videoblog of the classes work. They also coordinate the information gleaned from the researchers for each sub-region.
    • Groups connected with gaining insight into those challenges in each of the four sub-regions of Africa South of the Sahara.
    • A group that will create a giant map of Africa and coordinate all information, graphic or otherwise, connected to each sub-region.

Rubric:
  • Informative - Your knowledge and expertise is clearly shown. This is clearly and convincingly conveyed graphically for the school, and for the website. Videos and blogs are also informative in terms of showing the challenges faced by the students in completing this task.
  • Imaginative - Make it impressive. Wow each other.
  • Level of interest - It has to be fun to do and to watch. The final product is for the school and - I hope - for the global community.
